Do you work with any 3rd parties or contractors that use software that is Mac or PC only? What's the conversion process like?.What other tools (Maya, Max, Quixel, Substance Designer, Photoshop, etc.) besides UE4 will your team be using, and how well do they work on Mac vs PC?.and maybe the correct answer is to do a mix of both.

:) There's no simple answer to this one IMO and, quite frankly, you'll probably be just fine with either. Mac vs PC is one of those debates that often deteriorates to the emotional, anecdotal and religious pretty quickly so be cautious of anyone with overly strong opinions about one or the other.

Ram comes next, it depends on the kind of game projects you want to make but in most cases I would aim for 32gb as a baseline. To your point, if you’re going to get a MacBook Pro, get as much graphics power as you can afford. Unfortunately the editor just can’t keep up yet.
#UNREAL ENGINE FOR MAC WINDOWS#
My office work machine is a windows server grade beast with a disgusting amount of ram and dual processors, etc but these art programs still run faster and are smoother on the MacBook. These machines are made for artistic work, photoshop, blender, substance, zBrush, Maya, Houdini, etc will all (especially the ones with M1 ports so far) run blazing fast. Unity is in better shape, they have a beta version of their native M1 port but even that is only a partial port so far. Its fine to play with but I would not rely on it for production or even a student project. It works through Rosetta but it’s buggy and not particularly stable. Unreal has no native M1 version of the editor yet. So I bought one of these and I love it for everything outside of the editor.
